Survey Roadway & Infrastructure

CVL’s survey team has worked with contractors, metropolitan districts and government agencies to assist in the construction and improvement of roadways and infrastructure. CVL’s staff understands what may look like a simple stretch of road can involve many conflicts. The need for additional right-of-way, slope and construction easements, above and below ground utility conflicts and traffic control are just some of the problems that can arise without adequate attention. CVL works to anticipate and resolve the many conflicts that can arise so that construction remains on schedule. We also understand that the client may not always be able to anticipate the need for a survey field crew, be it due to lost stakes or a change in direction. CVL’s survey managers will do what it takes to get a crew to your site. We believe everyone on a project has the same goal, that being a successful, on-time, on-budget project. At CVL, we strive to help our clients reach that goal.

Chambers Road
Douglas County, Colorado

This six lane arterial roadway cut through the hills southwest of the Town of Parker. CVL provided construction staking services for a one mile stretch of this roadway. Grading for this project involved setting slope stakes with catch points falling on the hill sides with calls to top and bottom of retaining walls in some areas. This project also included construction staking for a sewer line crossing, a 24-inch waterline located within the roadway, stormdrain and a water quality pond with an outlet structure and trickle pan, curb and gutter, and meandering sidewalk.

Turnberry Metro Distict
Commerce City, Colorado

CVL provided construction staking services for the Metropolitan District at Turnberry. Staking services within roadways included approximately one mile of collector roadway with a roundabout, force main sewer, water main, public irrigation main, storm drain, utility crossings and widening improvements to State Highway 2. CVL also provided construction staking for drainage improvements on this project. Improvements included staking for Ragweed Draw, including staking for a box culvert, and staking for two water quality ponds including grading, concrete forbays, trickle channel outlet structures. CVL provided staking for the boring of two storm pipe crossings under State Highway 2 and the Burlington Northern Railroad.

State Highway 86
Elbert County, Colorado

CVL provided staking for just over a half mile of improvements on State Highway 86. This project accommodated the widening of the highway to create accel/decel, and left turn lanes. Construction staking services included slope staking for roadside ditch and pavement widening, extension of existing culverts, finish edge of pavement stakes and guardrail locations.

Quebec Street
Thornton, Colorado

This half mile stretch of Quebec Street was a dirt road that ran through the bottom of the Brantner Gulch drainage way. The survey department provided legals and exhibits for construction and utility easements before the start of construction of this project. When construction began, CVL was responsible for the staking of all the improvements. These staking responsibilities included slope staking, retaining walls, waterline, curb and gutter, pavement, guardrail, striping and the box culvert with pedestrian trail and stilling basin at the Brantner Gulch drainage way.

Newlin Gulch Road
Parker, Colorado

This quarter plus mile of roadway was required to connect a proposed subdivision to Main Street. Since no development along the roadway had been planned at the time, CVL worked with the owner of the land and the Town of Parker to prepare right-of-way legal descriptions for this portion of Newlin Gulch Road. After the right-of-way had been agreed upon CVL provided the construction staking for this roadway.

104th Avenue
Commerce City, Colorado

This project involves the expansion of 104th Avenue from a two lane paved roadway into a four lane concrete regional arterial with a major box culvert crossing, utility extensions, a railroad crossing, new traffic signals, medians, and improvements to the 104th Avenue and Highway 2 intersection. CVL has provided to the City of Commerce City and CDOT legal descriptions for additional right-of-way, and slope, utility and sidewalk easements. CVL has also prepared the right-of-way maps for CDOT. Other initial services provided by CVL include design topography, contracting utility locates, and utility pothole locates. CVL has been contracted to provide the construction staking for this project over three phases, which will be completed by the end of 2007.
